Metaphors are essential to good thought. How can one cultivate them? Some ways:
- Concentrate on important topics.
- Strive for brevity, but not at the cost of oversimplification.
- Juxtapose disparate, relevant concepts.
- Increase conceptual density by allusion to past writings.
- Surprise the reader (appropriately!).
- Review and polish --- rhythm and vocabulary, form and function, style and content.
- Understand and respect one's audience(s).
- Be honest.
- Share.
