OnStickiness

"You can never get rid of anything in this world; it always comes back, like it's attached with a bungee cord!" an acquaintance once said. That's almost right. More accurate would be to say that things are sticky --- tough to dispose of, and prone to return. Old clothes fill our closets. Textbooks and notes from classes taken years ago sit on shelves. Habits are hard to break, and easy to lapse back into. Relationships never have a sharp ending. Actions echo, with consequences that reverberate. And the silliest ideas, cravings, thoughts, and feelings all come back like ghosts to haunt us at the most inconvenient moments. That's the glory (and embarrassment) of memory.
