(in imitation of Geoffrey Chaucer; roughly, as I understand it, in Middle English vowels are short, not long, and "e" at the end of a word is pronounced; crudely translated into modern English: This day of Valentine, saint / Has full many a custom quaint. / Among them is the lover's kiss, / A ritual we never miss: / For thirty years of marriage sweet / Our lips do touch when e'er we greet. / And if another thirty more / Are granted us by God, I swear / In this tradition to persist, / As you and I continue blessed! ; cf.
