Several years ago my kids and some of their friends went to a local carnival set up to celebrate the end of summer and extract money from parents' wallets. One child from each of our three families became violently ill from the classic combo of cotton candy plus motion sickness. Every instance of nausea seemed quite comical to those who were not (yet) stricken.

The mini-amusement-park attractions had catchy names: "The Salt and Pepper Shakers", "The Gravitron", etc. When we got home we came up with more accurate appelations, such as:

  • The Vomitron
  • The Inner Ear-igator
  • The Stomach Churner
  • The Vertigo-maniac
  • The Cookie Tosser
  • The Retch-a-matic
  • The Dizzy Whizzy
  • The Nauseator
  • The Hurler — and its scaled-down counterpart for young riders, The Lil' Hurler
