Silence

we keep
our silence

we hold
our tongues

we offer
our best,
are ridiculed
and,
pull back
our open hands

hiding
in our pockets
fists

we take
what you mocked
your childrens' future
and toss it
on the fire
warming ourselves

and yet
you think
you judge
and wonder
why god hates you

it is not god
it is
us
who keep
our silence
