HybridGames

A lot of video games nowadays have much of a sameness to them — e.g., run, aim, fire, repeat ... or drive fast, crash into something, back up, repeat ... or move through a maze, collect objects, enter next level, repeat ...

One way to make more interesting scenarios might be to take some elements of "classic" arcade games and slip them into "modern" first-person high-polygon-count animations. For example, consider:

  • a character who has to eat miscellaneous foods while dodging enemies (Pac Man)
  • a character who trails a scarf behind — a scarf that gets longer and longer as the game progresses, possibly tangling on the scenery and impeding progress (Snake)
  • a character who must evade (or shoot at) falling objects as s/he moves through a level (Space Invaders)
  • a character who can catch falling objects and assemble them into useful equipment (but if s/he misses too many they pile up to block the way) (Tetris)

Other possibilities?
