SonnetForMyDaughterInLaw

A Sonnet Written to my Son's Bride

On Thursday morn the plane departs from here
to touch the ground where you and he will wed
then ends the years of my maternal care
If care is limited to food and rides and bed.

Connection between he and I began
nine months before I heard his summoning cry
throughout the years the bond between us, grand
with laughter, learning, hopes and joys and sighs.

Love does not end because he's got a wife,
instead, another home across the miles
a place of welcome, here, to lessen strife
and give you both refreshment from life's wiles.

The two of you to me become as one
Beloved wife of my beloved son.
