"New Place" is the house in Stratford-on-Avon that Shakespeare bought in 1597; it was his final retirement home. Paulette (my wife) and I are having an extension built onto the modest house we've been in for the past 20+ years. The main idea is to make a space that's "one-floor-liveable", so when we get frail(er) we can generally avoid going up/down stairs, navigating through narrow doorways, and so forth. The extra space will also allow for a basement studio and perhaps better access to books, records, art supplies, etc. See for a set of photographs showing the work since its beginning on 30 October 2006. Most of the images were taken by Paulette; she also gets credit for most of the design of the New Place, and the management of its construction. More to follow!
