Flying out, early morning:

• dirty fingerprints on the Chesapeake Bay --- glints of low sunlight as waves ripple toward shore
• giant girder latticeworks --- projections of north-south bridges onto the rivers they span
• sheepish white clouds, each with a black cut-out counterpart --- silhouettes float above the closer ones, sink below ones farther away, vanish into perfect alignment at the anti-solar point

Flying back, early evening:

• spiderweb strands of light --- highways between tangled fishnet neighborhoods
• dappled pools --- streetlamps over empty parking lots
• white and red corpuscles --- cars creep along clogged rush-hour arteries
