Someone (DW) once told me of a military strategist's way to characterize people along the dimensions of intelligence and motivation:
- clever & industrious = fine staff officers ... diligent, meticulous, and productive;
- clever & lazy = superior commanders ... creative and efficient;
- stupid & lazy = useful soldiers (given ample supervision and discipline);
- stupid & industrious = dangerous individuals! — avoid them at all costs.
