The SelfStandardization (6 Apr 2002) theme reminds me of a comment I made to my kids, back when they competed in chess tournaments: my Class A rating is about midway between their beginner's level and that of the world champion.

So should I look down upon my kids as I crush them? Or up in awe at the towering strength of grandmasters? Both? Neither?
