A silly riddle I'm in the process of working on — and make no mistake, it needs a lot of work:
What's red like a Russian journal? Zhurnaly ! |
Weak explanation & feeble motivation:
- red and read are homonyms (as in the old chestnut "What's black and white and red all over?")
- red is a color traditionally associated with Russia
- zhurnal means journal in Russian
- the suffix -ly or -y implies "like" (as in "fishy", "sooty", etc.)
Yeah, so if it needs that much exegesis then it isn't ever likely to be funny — but nonetheless it's my idea, hey, and I'm gonna keep messing with it until I get it right ...
